Georgia Tech – Caddell Building Renovations
About Project
The new John A. and Joyce K. Caddell Building, resulted from a complete exterior and interior renovation/restoration of an historic structure formerly know as the Architecture Annex. The re-purposed building houses the School of Building Construction’s collaborative multidisciplinary teaching and research facilities. The design’s sustainable strategy called for incorporation of features such as small-footprint high-efficiency mechanical systems, high-performance glass, daylighting, lighting controls and a custom whole building solar shading canopy by Peachtree Protective Covers.

This project features a sunscreen system that is suspended from steel structural. The blades appear to float beneath the steel super-structure. There are three (3) different shading regions. From shade region to shade region, the blade intervals change and the orientation of the blades relative to the building differ. The resultant shading is “optimized” for the interior spaces and for the building overall.
