What does it mean to be “Site Ready” for Canopy, Walkway Cover and Sunscreen/Trellis field measuring?

For all of our products that interface with the building, it is extremely important that the building exterior/skin be in place and that any structural blocking/backing to which we are to attach be installed and visible for our Field Technicians so that they can properly dimension them.

For our column supported walkway covers, it is critical that the styro-foam blockouts be correctly installed – meaning that they are to be flush with the top of the footings and properly aligned with each other in accordance with the layout provided on our approved shop drawings. While the following is true when we embed our columns, it’s especially important in those instances where we are to base-plate our columns (rather than embed them into the footings) – the reinforced concrete, walkways, footings and/or piers must be poured correctly and be in the proper relationship to the Finish Floor Elevation (FFE) or Top of Concrete (TOC) elevations.

For sunscreen/trellis systems, the window mullions to which we normally align our installations and the embeds or “knife plates/tabs” that support our product need to be in place along with any type of other support structure to which we are to attach our product.

To ensure the accuracy of our field measurements, our field technicians use laser equipment to survey the various elevations and features on the face of the buildings where our products will interface with the building. They do this not only to sight connection locations but also to identify areas where things might interfere with the installed product and/or installation of product. Once our Field Technicians have gathered this information, we import the data into AutoCAD. This automated methodology minimizes the risk of error during transcription and helps to ensure that our products fit jobsite/building conditions.
